AM I A LEADER OR A FOLLOWER ?
 

Really. It doesn't matter. 
Traditionally, teachers see Tango Leading as someone who proposes the direction, speed, intensity and length of a tango step and the follower takes the offer and dance in the most beautiful way possible. The  leader's job is to navigate on the tango dance floor and take care of the follower in a crowded space while showing off the skill of the follower.

In our tango school, we see the label of leading or following as two individuals working as a team, and each tango dancer have their specific role in order to create a connected, graceful, musical and beautiful movement with the team member.  It is not gender roles specific but different tasks within a dance so both parties can enjoy the dance with perfect communication.

WHY SHOULD FOLLOWER LEARN TO LEAD AND LEADER LEARN TO FOLLOW ?

We have always encourage both leader and follower try to put themselves in their partners shoes. To understand both roles in Tango aren't easy, and could be confusing in the beginning. But imagine,  communication at work, as in Tango, always improves with a little more understanding about your colleague's work process.

LGBTQ+ TANGO CLASSES & TANGO EVENT?

In Toronto, we do not have LGBTQ+ only Tango classes or Tango dance parties. We thrive to create a friendly, safe and welcoming space that provides everyone with fun, quality tango classes and tango gatherings.

​

Once you have mastered the Tango dance, you can participate in our friendly Milongas. You will see that our students both lead and follow in dance events, whether they same sex couples or not. There are also Queer Tango Festivals in Montreal, Ottawa and New York.

BUILDING A LGBTQ+ TANGO COMMUNITY IN TORONTO

Bulent & Lina are happy to assist in building a LGBTQ community if there is a demand. We offer tango teacher training and are happy to help with event organization, shows and promotion, etc. Simply contact us for details.
